有機發光二極體材料(Organic Light-Emitting Diodes):發光二極體材料由於其電致發光之特性使其在平面顯示元件上具有相當大的發展空間。這類材料由於其發光行為係本身放光,因此不像目前液晶顯示器需要額外之背光源、過濾片、補償膜…等,在製程上要較一般液晶顯示器來的簡單。而在這些二集體材料中,有機系統之發光二極體材料其材料的多樣性以及與半導體製程的相容性要較其他之無機系統來的高,是目前相當具有潛力之平面顯示材料。本實驗室致力於發展一系列具有不同光色之高亮度、高發光效率以及玻璃態之有機發光二極體分子,希望藉由分子結構的設計提高發色團的光色純度、發光強度以及量子效率等。另外,本實驗室亦利用色團結構的不規則性降低發色團之間的堆疊能力、延緩或限制其結晶的形成,提高材料之使用壽命。
有機非線性光學材料(Organic Nonlinear Optical Materials):非線性光學材料係一種可改變光的顏色或是相位的物質。這種材料可作為光開關、光倍頻器、光電腦…等多方面之光學用途。而在應用元件的輕薄短小要求、材料選擇的多樣性以及半導體製程方面的相容性要求下,有機非線性光學材料是目前極有希望的一群。本實驗室嘗試合成具有不同共振長度、推拉電子效應之有機非線性光學分子以及高分子材料。希望藉由結構的設計達到調制分子的非線性光學係數之目的。同時,由材料的結構出發設計具有高穩定性、高光學透明性、高機械強度和易加工之有機非線性光學材料,使材料能達到最大的應用價值。
其他新穎之有機光電材料:對於其他尖端之有機光電材料,包括分子元件(molecular device)、有機場效電晶體(Organic Field-Effect Transistors)、有機光伏材料(Organic Photovotaic)… 等本實驗室均有相當濃厚的興趣。
